Birmingham City Council Leader, Cllr Mike Whitby officially opens
the Business Insight Enterprise Agency in Summer 2007.

Business Insight Enterprise Agency was created in 2006 based on the experience of the Business Insight business library. Established in 1919, Business Insight is the UK’s most comprehensive, public business information service for starting, growing and developing your business, learning new skills, supporting creative companies and safeguarding your intellectual property.

90% of its 40 services are free within Birmingham providing access to a wealth of free resources and expertise. Business Insight’s objective is to
 
• improve the economic regeneration of Birmingham
• Create and support Small Businesses
• Encourage self employment and individuals to prosper
• Deliver on council policy objectives.

Part of the Central Library, Birmingham, England, we deliver our services to the city through the 40 strong local public library network. We are active partners with other agencies in the city, especially European funded projects.

Business Insight is our main operating body within which we have a number of specialist sub sections such as: Creative Insight (Intellectual Property) Creative Pathways (Creative Business Support), Information Direct (fee service for business research), Learning Insight (business skills), Statistics Insight (Market Research and Statistics), Jobs Insight (employment) plus legal compliance, international services, start ups, business planning, management and so on.

UK Services

We operate on a UK wide basis providing low cost services to any business on topics such as intellectual property, company formation, bespoke research, company information, market research, marketing lists, international data and credit checks. Our business information outsourcing packages are used by library and information units across the country.

All income goes back into the service to maintain a free facility for Birmingham and as a matter of policy we make as much of our knowledge and expertise available via a range of free web sites, online publications and talks.
